ERIC Joins Letter Encouraging Congress to Maintain Flexibility in Employee Benefits System
ERIC joined a letter sent last week to all Members of Congress highlighting the importance of a voluntary benefits system for "America Saves Week." Over 200 trade associations and companies signed the letter that celebrates the success of the private employer-provided retirement system.
The letter discusses how the employer-provided retirement system has been overwhelmingly successful in providing retirement income, with private employers spending over $200 billion on retirement income benefits in 2008 and paid out over $460 billion in retirement benefits. It also encourages Congress to maintain and strengthen the voluntary, flexible employer-provided retirement system that allows employers to tailor benefits to individual company workforces.
